About our Parish Mission

As you may or may not know, a Parish Mission is being held at St Dominic's (Waddon) on the weekend of Friday 18th, Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th of May.
What is a Mission?

"What is this Parish Mission?" I hear you ask.

A Mission is a special event in the life of a Parish - it happens only once every few years and is a great opportunity to slow down and look at our lives. It is also a time to look at our relationship with God and our relationship with those around us.

A Mission is a reminder of the love God has for each one of us and for our world. It is also an invitation to work more closely with God and your local Parish community.

Why do we need a mission?

Pope Francis has asked us to take a day each year to focus on Sacred Scripture. He also said that we should be creative about this.

Pope Francis said: "It would be beneficial if every Christian community, on one Sunday of the Liturgical Year to,

  • Renew its efforts to make the sacred scriptures better known
  • A Sunday given over entirely to the word of God
  • For the faithful to become living vessels for the transmission of God's word."

A Mission is for all Catholics who want to deepen and develop their faith and for those searching for meaning in life. It is also for all Christians who would like to come along and for all those who want to find out more about Jesus Christ – You are invited!

During the Parish Mission we will hold a Catholic Bible weekend which will be conducted by the Catholic Bible School.

The Catholic Bible School:

  • work with people of all ages and all denominations bringing the words of the Bible off the page and into our lives.
  • are dynamic, interactive and innovative presenters who are passionate about God and his word.
  • aim to help more people to encounter Jesus in the Scriptures and to apply the words of The Book to their everyday lives

Our Parish Mission Prayer

Please keep our Mission weekend in your prayers.

Lord in preparation for our Bible weekend.
We come to Your table to be nourished by Your words.
We ask that You prepare us to receive Your words,
by freeing us from sin and opening us up to Your mercy.
Open our eyes to the things we cannot see.
Open our minds to understand Your words and
Open our hearts to move us to do Your Will

Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ.
For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body and we were all given the one Spirit .
(1 Cor 12:27)
